Why the name "Nellie Kay"?
The name Nellie Kay came from my amazing 5 year old Granddaughter.
She inspires me every day of my life!
Who's steering the boat?
My newest crew member is "Ella". Ella is what I named my "Hydrovane" that I just finished installing. Although I do have an autopilot, a Hydrovane doesn't take any power and steers the boat entirely by the wind and has its own separate rudder. This provides great redundancy if I were to have a problem with the boat's rudder, or steering. The Hydrovane is a well proven system that's been on a ton of the solo global race boats.
"Ella" is also my other Granddaughter who's 16 months old and I'm pretty sure she'll be doing most of the steering on my way around the globe!
What kind of yacht is Nellie Kay?
Nellie Kay is an Island Packet 380 built in 1999. The IP380 was built from 1998 - 2004 in Largo, FL, in the good ole USofA. All Island Packet Yachts are Internationally Certificated CE Category A "Ocean", and winner of numerous awards. Nellie Kay is Hull #21.
